Katie & Scott’s Humanist Wedding at Carlowrie Castle

I love a romantic courtship story, don’t you? But I much prefer a Laugh Out Loud one, and Katie and Scott’s was so good, it was worth the fifteen year wait to tell it – as you can see below…

It was just THE BEST way to start their ceremony in the gorgeous gardens of Carlowrie Castle, so I was delighted when Katie got in touch to share these great photos from Ace lensman, Ricky Baillie.

As she said, “Tim, we knew straight away that we wanted you to be our celebrant. After seeing you conduct a few of our family members’ weddings, there was never any doubt – we loved the warmth, humour, and genuine emotion you brought to each ceremony.

At first, the idea of creating our own ceremony felt quite overwhelming, we had no idea where to start! But you took that feeling away almost instantly. Your thoughtful guidance, and all the inspiration you gave to us made the whole process feel not only manageable, but actually really enjoyable.

In the end, what we created together was so personal and meaningful, it truly told our story, just the way it should be. We even included a few embarrassing moments (mostly the story of how we met, of course!), but that’s exactly what our guests wanted to hear, and it made the ceremony feel even more ‘us’.

The day was perfect – the sun shone, we were surrounded by our favourite people, and we got to share our love story, 15 years in the making. Thank you for helping us bring it to life in such a beautiful, honest, and unforgettable way. We’ll never forget it.

Nor will I, Katie! What a day! It’s not often the sun shines so brightly that I have to keep my shades on – Scott did too, although he doffed them at the important moment, when he and Katie spoke their promises to one another.

In the week that we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the first legal humanist wedding in Scotland, it felt so good to be able to say that there’s no right time to get married. For more and more couples, marriage happens in the middle of their journey through life, and Scott and Katie’s wedding was a masterclass in how to make your ceremony not just sidesplittingly funny, but beautiful, honest and unforgettable!

So – thank you again, Katie and Scott for allowing me not only to be a part of your ceremony but also to share your story, and thank you too, to Ricky Baillie, all the team at Carlowrie – and to the lovely Stefanie & Andrew Black of Ginny & The Tonic whose music provides the background soundtrack to my Instagram story!
