A Time To Give

When my colleagues Julie Reid and Andy McSorley set up the Caledonian Humanist Association, they chose a different path. They decided we would focus on serving our local communities, keep our costs as low as possible and give away any surplus funds to local charities.

CHA is now a year old, so for my first donation I chose Sands Lothians, which is based in Edinburgh.

Sands Lothians supports anyone who has been affected by the death of a baby before, during or shortly after birth. Many parents feel that only others who have experienced the death of a baby can offer real understanding, so they run local support groups, usually led by bereaved parents and family members.

Nicola Welsh, Chief Executive of Sands Lothian said, “We are delighted to receive this donation of £1,000, and we will use it to host an Royal College of Midwives accredited training day for our support staff.”

I think that Sands Lothians does great work, and I hope I can find other ways to help them in future.

My thanks to the Edinburgh Evening News for the picture
