Thought for the World

I haven’t been posting much about weddings recently because I’ve been very busy organising the Humanist Society of Scotland’s third series of alternative Thought for the Day podcasts, Thought for the World. It’s part of a long-running campaign to persuade the BBC to open up their Thought for the Day slot on Radio 4 to secular contributors.

For two weeks, daily two minute podcasts by secular (and religious) contributors will run on our own Thought for the World site, What makes this slightly more significant is that The Guardian is also running the podcasts for two weeks on Comment is Free

Contributors this year include the distinguished philosophers AC Grayling and Julian Baggini, author and broadcaster Claire Rayner, former Bishop & regular Dawkins sparring partner Richard Holloway and the activists and comedians Ariane Sherine (who launched the Atheist Bus campaign) & Mark Thomas.

We’ve started a petition asking the BBC to open the slot up

There’s a Facebook Group

A Facebook Cause

And a JustGiving Fund-raising Page so we can raise money to continue to produce alternative thoughts for the day on a regular basis. I hope you’ll support the campaign and want to get involved.
