Now, this is a story all about how their lives got flipped – turned upside down, and I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there, and I’ll tell you how they became the couple that no other can compare.
Sound familiar? Well the inspiration for this tongue-twisting verse came from opening titles of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and it did make me smile when Steve and Jasmine asked me to deliver it at the start of their wedding. I’m not Jazzy Jeff, but it definitely made the ceremony go with a bang!
The story of Jasmine and Steve started in a nightclub called The Hive. Steve got very interested very quickly, but Jasmine played hard to get. Getting her contact details felt like getting blood out of the proverbial stone, but even when he had them, Steve still felt he wasn’t getting much response so he arranged to ‘accidentally’ bump into her outside the One Direction gig at Murrayfield Stadium.
The stratagem worked. He offered her a lift home and secured the desired goal of a first date followed… eventually… by a kiss.
7 years quickly passed as they moved in together, got two dogs, changed careers, took two trips around Europe on the motorbike, and bought not only Jasmine’s first car but also her first set of replacement wheel trims following a disagreement with a kerb…
Of course their wedding plans were thrown off by COVID but they didn’t just survive; they thrived, and Steven even learned how to poach the perfect egg to keep his true love happy.
Their ceremony was short and sweet, and we cut straight from their story to their vows, in which Jasmine took Steve as her “husband, best friend and fellow pizza lover,” and Steve took Jasmine as his “wife and partner in crime”!
When she sent me these great photos by sisters Karen and Carly who run Heyes Images, Jasmine wrote, “Looking back at having to write our ceremony, initially I was a little nervous as I assumed you would do that… but when we got to writing it, the homework made us really remember the important reasons why we decided to get married and also really make the ceremony ours.“
The tasks you gave us were fun, and once we completed them we sat down with a bottle of red and went over it. We really enjoyed doing that and we liked the personal touch which I think we achieved. (You definitely did!)
Everyone said how brilliant you were and I think that some of our guests who are planning to get married may send you a message!”
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us, Jasmine and Steve, and thank you too for your kind words. I’m very touched, and I wish you every happiness in the months and years to come.
Thanks too to Carly and Karen of Heyes Images for the beautiful photos!
