“Wow – what a wedding weekend!“
that’s what Anne-Marie and Richard said when they sent me these great photos taken by the lovely Nicola Bald – I thought I’d share the cheeky snap I took of her on the day from my Instagram feed.
Richard and Anne-Marie first got in touch – oh gosh, in 2019 which seems ages ago now – but like so many people their initial plans were thrown off course by Covid. The one aspect that they really wanted to keep was to make it a fabulous weekend party somewhere out of doors in their home county of East Lothian, and they did, giving me my first ever visit to the John Muir Tipis, at Hedderwick Farm just outside Dunbar.
The summer has been good to us here in Scotland, and as we like to say, Richard and Anne-Marie got the one bad day. But it didn’t dampen anybody’s spirits – not in the least!
Looking at these photos just makes my smile grow even wider! Not only did their guests ignore the claps of thunder that sounded as though they were getting closer and closer with every passing second, they also shrugged off the wee smirr of rain that arrived more or less as Anne-Marie did.
Even better than that, they really were “singing in the rain” (although that wasn’t the song Richard had chosen!)
I absolutely LOVED their ceremony. It was huge but intimate, heartfelt, funny and moving.
Richard and Anne-Marie spoke their reasons for loving one another directly – one line at a time, and one after the other.
They did the same for their vows too, which was a very original idea.
“We loved our ceremony as did everyone attending, such a special twist on such an important occasion that made it just so extra special and memorable.”
You said to us right from the very start that we would feel that we were doing all the work, but without your guidance and expertise, it would never have been such a special memory for us both, so thank you so much.
A fun weekend was had by all, with many memories being made. Thank you so much again!
So many of Anne-Marie and Richard’s guests told me how much they loved the ceremony, and as I said to them all at the time, “that’s because they wrote it”. Their words, their thoughts, their imagination and above all, their love for one another. It’s an unbeatable combination!
So thanks, Richard and Anne-Marie – I loved being a part of your day, and I hope you’ll stay in touch. Thanks too to Nicola for the great shots that really capture the unique atmosphere of the day.
