Farewell, Scottish Wedding Directory

I was saddened to hear last month that the country’s best wedding magazine had thrown in the towel. Scottish Wedding Directory had grown from a successful magazine into an even better multi-platform publication which earned the respect of its readers by allowing them to review their suppliers.

Those independent testimonials were a great help to me and to my Celebrate People colleagues. In the three or four years they existed, we consistently topped the polls and it was very useful to be able to point prospective wedding couples towards them when they were looking for an reference.

That’s gone now, not just for us but for every category of wedding supplier from cake makers to photographers and venues. Personally, I think it was a short-sighted decision on the part of the magazine’s owners. Weddings may have had to slim down, but they haven’t gone away, and couples are still looking for an independent source of reliable advice on wedding suppliers.

I hope the talented team who made it such a success will go on to create something of their own. The late US President Kennedy once said, “When written in Chinese, the word crisis is composed of two characters. One represents danger and the other represents opportunity” – this may be the worst possible time to lose a job, but it’s also the best possible time to start a new venture. I wish them all the luck in the world, and hope you will follow SWD’s editor Natasha Radmehr on Instagram here and former Fashion Editor Stephanie here

    Hi Tim,
The closure of the magazine and website is a great loss to the Scottish wedding sector. We approached the owners about taking over the site to keep it going but they were not interested.

Sooo, we decided to do our own – we are still growing and adding suppliers – directory first, then articles, then wedding storybooks – have a peak – you may see some familiar faces 🙂
