My approach to Weddings
In a humanist wedding, you’re completely free to say in your own words why you’re here, where you’re going and what you’re promising, which is both really exciting and just a wee bit scary at the same time.
I’ve got lots of great ideas to help you do this, but I work a bit differently from some of my colleagues. Many of them will write your ceremony for you, but I don’t, and here’s why.
There are only two people who have the faintest idea why you think getting married is a good idea: you and your partner. So when we meet, I’m not going to tell you what marriage means. I’m going to ask you to go away and think about what it means to you.Taking the time to think about why you’re getting married, and deciding what you want to tell your family and friends, is the key to making your wedding absolutely your own – as so many of the couples I’ve married have been happy to tell me.
But my approach isn’t for everyone, so if you don’t like that idea, then I am not the right celebrant for you. There are plenty of people out there who will be delighted to help you, and you can find links to some of the best of them here.
On the other hand, if you want to create a truly unique ceremony that speaks in your own voice, please drop me a line and I’ll help you create one that will not only inspire your family and friends, but give you a memory to cherish for the rest of your lives.
PS – I shared this on Facebook when I wrote this post and here are just some of the comments that came straight back…
